The event was dedicated to the role of key state institutions in protection and rescue in the event of natural disasters and other emergencies. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of clear, timely and credible public communication in crisis situations, which is essential for preventing panic, the spread of disinformation and for the effective participation of the population.
The introductory part of the event was marked by Karmen Medica from the Department of Media Studies of UP FHŠ, who presented the Disaster Journalism project and project infographics.
In the central part of the event, Sandra Vovk, representative of the Protection and Rescue Administration of the Republic of Slovenia, presented the functioning of this central state institution in crisis situations. The lecture highlighted the way of coordination between different protection and rescue services, cooperation with the media and the challenges of informing the public in times of disasters. The importance of trust, professionalism and transparency in communication with the public was particularly emphasized, as quality information can significantly contribute to the effective response of society to crisis events.
The event offered an important insight into the institutional aspect of crisis management and complemented the understanding of the roles of the media, humanitarian and NGOs that we had addressed in previous events within the project.
This concludes a series of awareness-raising events that we organized within this project in the academic year 2025/2026 on the topic of the role of various social stakeholders in the event of disasters and emergencies.
