On March 3, 2026, the Universidade da Coruña hosted the closing Multiplier Event of the Erasmus+ project Disaster Journalism: Preventing the News from Turning into a Disaster. Held at the Faculty of Communication Sciences from 15:00 to 17:00, the event brought together more than 60 participants, including communication students and regional journalists.

The session marked the culmination of the project’s activities in Spain and aimed to present its final results and educational resources to the academic and professional community. Organizers emphasized the importance of specialized training in disaster reporting, security protocols for journalists in the field, and mental health support before, during, and after covering traumatic events.

The first part of the event introduced the project’s key outcomes and tools designed to prevent sensationalism and enhance journalist safety. This was followed by a roundtable discussion featuring four experienced communication professionals: Inmaculada Carpe, Miguel Oliveros, Patricia Torres, and Brais Lorenzo. The panelists shared firsthand experiences from covering crises, including wildfires in Galicia, the Vila de Pitanxo shipwreck, and other high-impact events, highlighting both professional challenges and emotional impacts.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, encouraging dialogue between students and experts. Organizers described the strong attendance and active participation as a clear sign of the growing interest in responsible and trauma-aware disaster journalism.
